It's time to say farewell to President Barack Obama after his 8-year tenure.
The 2016 Election has been a huge deal in the US because Donald Trump is officially the 45th President. I am heartbroken. As a woman of color with a medical condition, I am the exact type of person that Trump would marginalize. Thank goodness I grew in California, especially in ethnically/racially/religiously/socioeconomically diverse areas such as the Bay Area and Sacramento where I didn't experience discrimination for my skin color. I hurt for those that live in different regions of the US (such as the South and ultra rural parts of the Midwest) that experience mistreatment and discrimination.
I try not to talk about politics here, especially because it's a sensitive topic and I'm still learning. Okay, I have to confess: I didn't pay too much attention in high school. I have been learning a lot more thanks to being engaged to a former PoliSci major and to experiencing the one issue that is extremely important to me: healthcare. I honestly don't know how I would be able to thrive health-wise or even graduate college if it wasn't for Obamacare. As someone who is suffering (and has love ones who suffer as well) from a medical condition, it was extremely important to me to elect someone who advocates free (or low cost) healthcare for those with pre-existing conditions, mental health issues and low-middle incomes.
Okay, enough of my political rambling...that's not the point of this post. This post is to pay homage to First Lady Michelle Obama's style over the past 8 years. (much more positive and lighthearted than this circus of an election, isn't it?!)
I will be the first to admit that I didn't care too much about the Obamas when they first took office in 2009. But as I observed them over the past 8 years, I became in awe of their intelligence, poise, and compassion. They stood strong in the midst of hate thrown at them just because of their skin color. I admire how in love President Barack and Michelle show their love and affection for each other to this day, and hope that Cecilio and I can still be that way in 20 years. I love how our former former First Lady, Michelle, went above and beyond to make sure that children were well-nourished and fed nutritious meals.
And here comes the superficial: I admit that I envy those arms of hers. She has a sense of style that could make Jackie O green with envy. Fashion and style are ways of expressing oneself and how you want to portray yourself to the world. Mrs. Obama pulled off outfits effortlessly that reflected her grace, class and inner beauty. She inspires me to not be so sloppy in how I dress, because how I dress will determine how I feel for the rest of the day. (My mom taught me this too) So by wearing sweats all day, I will feel lazy and sluggish. Whether she is making an appearance in a swanky Zac Posen number or busting a move in comfortably chic outfits, you can't help but admire her beauty, inside and out.
Here are 3 of many outfits that have inspired me and many fashionistas out there:
Outfit #1: Party-ready
Michelle Obama featured in Ladies Home Journal (Dec. 2013/Jan. 2014 issue)

I will miss the Obama Administration so much. Here's to enduring the Trumps for the next 4 years (I hope it's only going to be for 4 years!)
